Apeiron
- Version Number: 1.0.3
- Revision Date: March 9, 2000
- Byte Size: 3.1 Meg
- License: Shareware
- Apeiron combines classic arcade action of yesteryear with state of the art
computer animation and digital sound. During a port through thelooking glass
the mirror shatters and your ethereal energy (you know, thestuff that allows
you to get up and go to work on a Monday morning) is trapped within one of the
crystal shards. Immediately the residents of the mushroom patch sense your
presence and start to relentlessly hunt the crystal, intent upon sucking the
trapped energy out. Luckily you are not defenseless; with plasma cannon blazing,
you must hold out as long as possible.
- MacShare comments: Basically, this is the old classic Centipede. But,
it's much, muchbetter. If you download this, be warned. You'll never be able to
stop playing.
Arashi
- Version Number: 1.1.1
- Revision Date: September 20, 1994
- Byte Size: 307K
- License: Shareware
- Arashi is a freeware 3D vector graphics arcade game.
- MacShare comments: Do you remember
the game called Tempest? You had to shoot these geometric shapes down a
long geometric tunnel with a kind of claw. I can't explain it. You have
to see this game to get an idea. Suffice it to say it was my favorite in
the Arcades back in the 80's and it's still up there on my list.
Avara
- Version Number: 1.0.1
- Revision Date:October 20, 1999
- Byte Size: 1.6mb
- License: Shareware
- Official Website
- Ambrosia's Homepage
- Avara's real-time graphic action will start your heart pounding
as you see your opponent gracefully bound across the terrain and quickly
swoop in behind you. Using both the mouse and keyboard, you have complete
360 degree control to counter maneuver and quickly target your enemy. You aren't limited to 'sliding' around in predetermined mazes like in many
of the older 3D games. Avara's maneuverability is unique, allowing its
warriors to freely climb, jump, and run on any of the structures in the
battlefield. Add to this Avara's networkablity, and the game gets even
more interesting. Avara allows you to meet and play against people from
all around the world, right over the internet. Develop your skills and
strategy in the many solo levels, and when you are ready, access the Avara
Internet Tracker to locate worthy opponents. Avara can also be played across LAN (Local Area Network) connections as well. You are also able to design your own battlefields. The only limiting factor to your gaming experience is your imagination.
- MacShare comments: The greatest multi-player game since
Trade Wars hit the BBS's of the world.. this thing is fantastic. Take the
time to learn the controls, sign on to the internet and go up against anyone
in the WORLD! What they won't think up next. Highly recommended for those
with PPC or 040 Macs (and a fast modem is a good idea)
Barrack
- Version Number: 1.0.4
- Revision Date: November 3, 1999
- Byte Size: 3 mb
- License: Shareware
- Barrack
Discretion <--Less offensive sounds. From Ambrosia.
- Ambrosia's Homepage
- Barrack is a game that is hard to pigeonhole. It exhibits a precarious
balance between action and strategy; thinking and reflex. The feeling you
get from playing Barrack is an eccentric harmony between the automatic,
mind-numbing pleasure of Tetris and the kind of action found in Maelstrom.
The result is that you'll be left with sweat on your brow. Barrack's goal
is deceptively simple; there are a number of balls on the play field that
are bouncing like a neurotic on a sugar rush. Your job is to use your shooter
to isolate them. If a ball breaks your shooter's particle beam before it
tears through the play field, your shooter overloads and explodes in a
cascade of fire and scrap metal. Just to make it interesting, there's a
land shark named Bosco who is a rare breed of shark capable of rearranging
his molecular structure at will. This enables him to travel at quite a
clip through otherwise solid substances. If you don't pay attention while
he closes in on your shooter you're finished.
- MacShare comments: Remember that cool
game in the Arcades called QIX?? This is the same thing, only better. I've
been waiting a LONG time for this game to end up on the Mac. Highly recommended addictive fun!! Thanks, Ambrosia!!
Battleship
- Version Number: 2.0.2
- Revision Date: August 14, 1994
- Byte Size: 187K
- License: Shareware
- The classic game of battleship. Play against the computer or your friend.
You can choose from 3 different games: one shot per turn, one shot per
ship, and shoot until you miss.
- MacShare comments: My wife plays this game a lot after
work.
Bedlam 2
- Version Number: 1.0.6
- Revision Date: October 30, 1998
- Byte Size: 4.8 meg
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Bedlam 2 contains over 10 music tracks utilizing QuickTime technology , tons of "stereo" sound effects, and several full 256 color 3D rendered images. The many exciting and nerve-wracking features are sure to challenge your senses and give your mouse finger a workout. The battle begins at Pluto and as you progress beyond each level, obliterating the swarm of adversaries becomes succeedingly more difficult. The aliens are supplied with additional hazardous and unpredictable weaponry at each planet as you advance toward Mercury. Asteroids, score multipliers,
and other exciting objects sometimes appear to help or hinder you on your quest. If you're successful in annihilating all four waves of alien attackers, the planet concludes with a battle to the death against the seemingly invincible alien mothership. Will you choose to accept this mission? Mankind is depending on you!
- MacShare comments: I downloaded this game to check it out. I spent about 3 hours playing it after that, and couldn't "put it down". It brought back all the memories of the great classic arcade games I grew up with. It's kind of a cross between Space Invaders and Gyrus, but with much better graphics. Very addictive. Highly recommended. Caveat: This game loads VERY slowly on my 68K Mac (PPC's might have better luck). It
took 3 minutes of looking at the splash screen while the game loaded the sprites and such before I was able to play the game. However, the wait is worth it. (Load the game and go get a soda)
Bubble Trouble
- Version Number: 1.0.1
- Revision Date: June 2, 1997
- Byte Size: 2039K
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Bubble Trouble is a game in which cutthroat fishies are playing hardball in a squabble over some very wet turf. Think of it as splatball for insufferably cute seafaring critters. Bubble Trouble's world is filled with critters who give that cranky crab from The Little Mermaid a run for his money. But money isn't what you'll be running from: an otherwise peaceful fish bowl has been filled with bubbles that are being tossed around in an enthralling game of "Squish the Fish!" Yes, it's squish or be squished -- and there are plenty of would-be squishers just waiting for you to get your feet wet: Piranha and starfish and eels! However, there are plenty of power-ups and goodies you can hook your fin onto to give you a bit of an edge.
- MacShare comments: As usual, if itÓs from Ambrosia, itÓs excellent. Addictive too. Be prepared to lose some sleep over this one.
Boxcars Casino

- Revision Date: Aug. 19, 1995

- A whole casino in one app. Play any of the following six games and learn the basics of real casino play. Poker, blackjack, baccarat, craps, slots and

Burning Monkey Solitaire PPC
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: December 6, 1997
- Byte Size: 4330K
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Burning Monkey Solitaire 68K
- From Bedtime for Bonzo to B.J. and the Bear, monkeys have been a source of humor for millions of people. Burning Monkey Solitaire is a low-brow heir to that noble tradition, (and believe us it took nearly a year of development, and the addition of a particularly nasty vomit sound, to get lower-brow than B.J. and the Bear).
- MacShare comments: Uh, yeah. The description above (from the authors) isn't exactly helpful in describing the game.. except to point out that the programmers are totally nuts. This is just your basic Klondike Solitaire game, with a lot of stress reducing easter eggs built in. Watch out for burning monkeys, though.
Centaurian
- Version Number: 1.2.1
- Revision Date: August 21, 1996
- Byte Size: 1137K
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Centaurian is an arcade-style space game reminiscent of Bosconian, a
Midway-Namco arcade game from the early 1980's. Players battle through
enemy-controlled zones, destroying Centaurian bases and confronting a
variety of enemy ships and mines to reach the Centaurus colony. There are
a number of ship enhancements which can be found or purchased to assist in
the mission, and there are nine different bonus screens (Admiral Zorg's
Challenges) modeled after classic arcade games.
- MacShare comments: This game will keep you busy for
many hours. Somewhat like Asteroids and Xevious mixed together. Addictive.
Chiral
- Version Number: 1.0.4
- Revision Date: May 13, 1996
- Byte Size: 2121K
- License: Shareware
- Update
to 1.0.4
- Webster defines Chiral as "a kind of symmetry found in atomic
particles that is not superimposable on its mirror image." Ambrosia
redefines this dry scientific adjective with a mind melter of a puzzle
game. MacUser awarded this new definition of fun with their Shareware of
the Year Award for 1994. MacWeek says "With the release of Chiral,
Ambrosia is breaking its creative bonds...With repeated play comes an appreciation
of the subtle beauty and elegant sophistication of its design." Inside
Mac Games calls Chiral "a uniquely creative action-strategy game that
is just as much fun to watch as it is to play." Chiral is a fusion
between the scientific concept of atomic bonding and the addictive game
play of Tetris. Chiral has six separate difficulty settings and twenty
four levels of puzzling play, for a grand total of 144 screens of mind-boggling
fun and excitement.
Crib3000
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: May 3, 1997
- Byte Size: 1231K
- License: Shareware
- "Crib 3000" is a true computer cribbage card game. In many ways it's actually better than the real thing. With 5 different personalities to play it can challenge the novice player all the way to the truly "professional" players of the cribbage world. "Crib 3000" is chock full of graphics, options, and movement. Not only does the game look real, it feels real!
- MacShare comments: I've always enjoyed a good game of Cribbage. This takes that enjoyment one step further, as I don't have to count up all my points. Of course, in a real game, missing points you earned is half the game! Still, it's nice not to have to be on your toes. (for the die-hards, you can cancel the auto count feature) If you're into card games, this is a must.
Dr. Max
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: November 8, 1997
- Byte Size: 1687K

- With great music and and a highly polished arcade feel, this game is
guaranteed to quickly become a favorite! Help Dr. Max stop a runaway viral
experiment before it takes over the entire lab! Guide falling vitamin
capsules to trap the pesky viruses in lines of the same color. If you work
quickly the viruses can be destroyed, but make a mistake and they'll get
the better of you. Inspired by the arcade classic "Doctor Mario".
- MacShare comments: If you've been a fan of Tetris Max, another game by the same author, you already know that this is going to be good. Addictive fun.

Velocity Add-Ons

- Official EV Homepage
- Welcome to life in the 23rd century! Escape Velocity puts you smack-dab
in the middle of a booming galaxy. As the captain of a shiny new spacecraft,
you make your fortune and build your empire. If that sounds like a walk
in the park, you're in for a surprise - dangers abound! Your lowly shuttle
craft will need more than a little luck to make a profit... and survive.
Over a hundred worlds occupy the galaxy, each with its own technology,
alliances, and commodities. As you earn credits and gain fame, Confederation
peace keepers and Rebel patriots struggle for power, leaving you in the
middle. Escape Velocity spans a number of genres, combining elements of
classic "trading" games, arcade space shoot-outs, and strategy
simulations. Numerous sub-plots fill Escape Velocity's world; your choices
affect the story's development, guaranteeing that each game will be different
from the last.
- MacShare comments: Escape Velocity has the dazzling 3D rendered graphics,
full stereo sound, and all the polish that you'd expect of an Ambrosia
game. As with any game by this company, you WON'T be disapointed.
Frog Xing
- Version Number: 1.2
- Revision Date: May 1, 1996
- Byte Size: 1024K
- License: Shareware
- Frog Xing is a well-paced arcade game in which you guide a frog across a
highway and a river to dock on the other side. You can catch bonuses
along the way to score extra points. Frog Xing has a nostalgic look to
it, with a tip of the hat to the classic arcade games. With both
traditional and new sound effects and a hopping music score, the
gameplay is addictive and should be fun for both novices and arcade
experts. Even children will enjoy watching and helping the frog cross to
the other side.
- MacShare comments: A simple game, but one that I liked as a kid. My children
like it now, so it must be timeless. A good family addition to MacShare.
Harry the Handsome Executive
- Version Number: 1.0.1
- Revision Date: November 11, 1997
- Byte Size: 6929K
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Updater 1.0-->1.0.1
- Join Harry the Handsome Executive as he scoots and kicks his swivel chair through the halls of ScumCo in this delightful action game developed by Ben Spees. The path to job security is fraught with many perils! Harry must avoid discomfort caused by dart-throwing middle managers, rebellious customer service drones, crazed chemists, and a host of other enemies. All the while, he must maintain corporate favor or risk the feared pink slip.
Harry is not without his own weapons: he can (ahem) acquire explosive soda cans from vending machines, and he knows how to handle an industrial-strength staple gun -- perfect for any offensive action in the modern workplace.
- MacShare comments: ItÓs an Ambrosia product, so you know itÓs good. It sounds very silly, and it is. But itÓs also strangely addictive. Watch out for the darts!

3-D INTERFACE. ANIMATED EXPRESSIONS that change in context. SPEAKING OPPONENTS

skill levels. OPTIONAL RULES to accommodate almost all Hearts variations.TELEPATHY
window which gives you an exciting look at the artificial intelligence
engine that powers HEARTS DELUXE. And most importantly, it plays an excellent
game of Hearts.
- MacShare comments: If you love to play Hearts and can never find 3 other players
around the house, it's time to download this one. A classic game in the Mac Universe
these days... and written by FreeVerse, which means it's got humor built in. My wife
thinks this is the best game on my Mac.

- This Macintosh classic is what put Ambrosia on the map as the leading
Macintosh shareware publisher. Maelstrom has received a four star rating
from Macworld, the MacUser 1993 Best Shareware Game award, and the Shareware
Industry Award for best game. Maelstrom also took first place in the 1994
Mac Home Journal Reader's Choice Awards. The dreaded Maelstrom is a dangerous
asteroid belt within which you must skillfully pilot your spacecraft. Animated
space debris races toward you from all points of the compass. All that
you have to protect you are your shields, razor-sharp reflexes, and an
itchy trigger finger.
- MacShare comments: Remember Asteroids? This is it, only much better.
MacChess PPC
- Version Number: 5.0.1
- Revision Date: March 15, 1999
- Byte Size: 524K

except for HIARCS ($150). ( Also tested: Chessmaster 3000, GNUChess 4.0b5,
Sargon V, Crafty 11.13)
- MacShare comments: This plays a mean game of chess, and has
a nice graphic interface. It can beat me at chess, everytime. It's great
for cheaters, too, as you have unlimited UNDO commands at your fingertips.
Highly recommended.

- Byte Size: 2671K

- Roms for MacMame <--leave them zipped!!
- MacMAME is a port of the PC multi-emulator MAME. As of this release, it supports a mind-boggling amount of games: (some of them are:) Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Galaga, Gyruss, Joust, Mario Bros., Millipede, Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man, Q*bert, Qix, Robotron,
Space Invaders, and Zaxxon. (There are now over 1000 games).
- MacShare comments: This solid emulator isn't supporting
copies of arcade games.. it's supporting the ORIGINAL Roms of most of the popular arcade games of the 70's & 80's. I can verify this because the patterns I memorized to destroy PacMan work exactly right. If you played in the arcades like I did, this emulator and the available Roms are a MUST. 68K Macs will experience very slow emulation, but it's still a walk down memory lane. PowerMacs are highly desirable. Read all the notes on the MacMame homepage for details on development (ongoing).
MacMines
- Version Number: 2.0.4
- Revision Date: May 5, 1994
- Byte Size: 116K
- License: Shareware
- Can you locate all the mines on the playing field? Make one wrong move
and you blow it (literally!). You can vary the minefield size, and choose
from options such as craters, moving mines, and a randomizer square. Saves
high scores and stats for each difficulty level.
- MacShare comments: This is MineSweeperfor the Mac. Very addictive and all in a
DA. Great for those times when you are waiting on a fax. This version has several hot
keys that make for ease of play.
MacPipes
- Version Number: 2.2.7
- Revision Date: March 3, 1999
- Byte Size: 737K
- License: Shareware
- MacPipes is a small game similar to Pipe Dream for windoze (it's in
fact the Macintosh rendition of an ancient Amiga game called Pipeline).
- MacShare comments: And a fun and addicting little game it is, too. Hours of fun, if you like to lose a lot, before you get good at something. Worth a look.
Mars Rising
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: January 15, 1998
- Byte Size: 4.7 MB
- License: Shareware
- The klaxon sounds as all pilots are ordered to scramble. "This is not a
drill," announces the shrill voice over the loudspeaker. "Martian
secessionists have decimated our occupational forces! Intel reports
they're gearing up to attack us! All of our forces have been overrun!"
A chill enters your mind, as you remember your friends on the planet.
How could their large force be so easily defeated? And, more
importantly, what can you do about it? You can't shoot fast enough. You
don't have enough bombs. Your experimental Vac-Fighter's shields are
probably weaker then their armor. You have only one comrade to assist
you against multiple waves of enemies.
- MacShare comments: Another great and addictive game from Ambrosia!
Mille Bornes
- Version Number: 1.2.1
- Revision Date: June 19, 1992
- Byte Size: 298K

- Here's a new version of the card game "Mille Bornes". Some
of you may remember the card game of the same name by Parker Brothers.
"1000 Miles" is a race against flat tires, repairs, fuel shortages,
and stop lights. A great game, made all the better as a computer game.
The program requires an 8-bit, 13" (or larger) monitor, in order to
run.
- MacShare comments: This is MY favorite card game. Terrific graphic interface.
Mortal Pongbat

- Power PC version
- Mortal Pongbat is Pong, taken to a whole new level of vicious, friend-losing
fun.
- MacShare comments: Finally! Someone wrote a Pong game for the Macintosh
that is worthy of playing. If your opponent (live or computer) starts to get in
your way, just shoot his paddle out from under him. You'll love this after
you get used to the game controls, which are configurable. Highly recommended.

and you can't place it in it's spot, you lose.
- MacShare comments: OK, only download this
if you like to hit your computer with your head. It'll drive you crazy.
But, I'm a glutton for punishment, and I love this game.

Patriot Command
- Version Number: 1.1
- Revision Date: December 10, 1995
- Byte Size: 408K
- License: Shareware
- Patriot Command is an implementation of a popular arcade classic. The
object of the game is to protect world cities from an onslaught of ICBMs
and other nasties that an unnamed whimsical fascist dictator decided to
launch against the world. The worlds only defenses are three Patriot missile
silos which you command. Each Patriot missile is capable of creating an
explosion large and powerful enough to destroy any enemy objects that are
engulfed by it.
- MacShare comments: Remember Missle Command? This is it, only much better.
The graphics are terrific. Easier to play on a 68030 chip Mac, due to the
slower speed. Play at your own risk on a Quadra with a disk cache, as you
won't get far (unless you have a trick to slow down your CPU in certain
cirucmstances).

backwards. However, this one has a few new goodies to play with, and it's one of the

Snood
- Version Number: 2.1
- Revision Date: August 11, 1998
- Byte Size:788K
- License: Shareware
- Homepage
- Snood is a puzzle game that will test your intellect rather than your reflexes. Your goal
is to free all of the trapped Snoods by launching other Snoods at them. If you connect three
or more Snoods, they will transport away. If that leaves any Snoods not connected to the top
of the playfield, they will fall to safety. Every Snood you launch increases the Danger Level.
When the gauge fills up, the Snoods will shift downward. If the Snoods reach you, the game is
over. PARENTS!: Snood is a good game for children as well
as adults. The game is non-violent and non-confrontational, and children can play at their
own pace. It develops several basic skills, including matching, calculation of angles, and
simple strategic assessment and problem solving. It does not require reading, and the controls
are very simple. The Child difficulty level is easy enough even for young children.
- MacShare comments: Very addictive, as any good game should be. My children love it,
but I played it WAY past my bedtime. Kind of a cross between Breakout and Tetris 2. Worth a
download and shareware fee.

from a distant quadrant of another galaxy - have targeted earth for destruction.
Alien agents have disabledthe Earth's sophisticated defense systems, leaving
the home planet virtually unprotected. The only thing that stands between
the hungry Swooper legions and their goal is you and your trusty George

invading horde.

game. Addictive.

Tetris Plus
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: August 25, 1995
- Byte Size: 668K

- Tetris Plus is a step above Tetris. The goal is to arrange red, green,
and blue blocks of the same color horizontally or vertically, three or
more in a row. Once this is done, the blocks will explode. Clear the "flash"
blocks in order to complete a level. Includes 9 difference varieties of
pieces (all with varying color combinations), 3 of which are special, in
that block fragments can "break off" of the main piece, making
for some interesting game play. Includes a music soundtrack, and great
sound effects. Very addicting!
- MacShare comments: Recently, I played Tetris 2 on a GameBoy,
and have discovered that this is the same game, with better music. Worth
playing.

Xenia
- Version Number: 1.0
- Revision Date: January 17, 1997
- Byte Size: 308K
- License: Freeware
- Xenia is a classic arcade shoot-em-up modeled somewhat after the great
classic "Xevious". It is fat binary and runs on 68030 or better,
with 8-bit color suggested. Its tight coding ensures a minimal download
time.
- MacShare comments: As suggested, you need to run this in 256 colors (at least on
a 68K Mac) so that it'll run smoothly. Once you've made that adjustment,
this is a solid game and exactly like Zevious. Proof that you CAN make
a game that plays well and looks good for less than a few Megs of HD space.
The Zone
- Version Number: 1.5.1
- Revision Date: February 12, 1996
- Byte Size: 1515K
- License: Shareware
- Enjoy the finest space driving possibility you have ever had in inertial
arcades. Admire the best 3D rendered sprites on this platform. Experience
the mad collision system that makes our game something like a crazy space
pool. Blast out the heaviest mother bases you could dream of. Destroy the
toughest enemies in evil space. Survive the higher levels fighting maniacal
hordes of nasties.
- MacShare comments: Similar in look to Maelstrom, but different in
theme and gameplay. Worth adding to your game library if you like "Asteroids" style arcade games.
